About Jack H. Schron, Sr. and His Memorial Golf Tournament

In 1942 Jack H. Schron, Sr. and his father Christy Schron opened their first machine shop – Glenn Tool and Manufacturing – located in the Collinwood area. That company, now called Jergens, Inc., continues on today in business carrying on his foresight and leadership in maintaining state-of-the-art technology and workforce training, and building a strong manufacturing community.

Jack H. Schron, Sr. was a graduate of Collinwood High School, which is not far from the location of the present corporate headquarters. He held numerous United States and International Patents. In 1944 he was recognized by SME as “Engineer of the Year”, and was listed in the Who’s Who of Engineering.

Through his involvement with the first Ohio Trade Mission to Europe with Governor James Rhodes, Jack helped build the manufacturing industry for the State of Ohio. He became very successful as an ambassador for Ohio manufacturing, prompting Governor Rhodes to select him to be a member of the Ohio Commodores. Jack was later elected to serve as the organization’s Grand Commodore.

In keeping with Jack H. Schron, Sr.’s lifelong commitment to manufacturing and education, the scholarship proceeds from the JACK H. SCHRON, Sr. Memorial Golf Tournament are used to benefit local manufacturing students and programs. It is fitting that Jack Sr., a member of the Collinwood Hall of Fame who began his manufacturing studies in the Cleveland Schools, would now help others through a scholarship in his name.

SME Cleveland Chapter 003 was Jack Sr.’s home chapter, and also benefits from the proceeds of the tournament. The group uses the proceeds in part for the SME Bridge Membership program. This program helps graduating manufacturing engineers join a senior level chapter like SME Cleveland Chapter 003 by paying for their SME membership dues as they begin their careers.

Thank you for supporting manufacturing in the Cleveland area!
